In the 2017 Paul Lawrie Match Play final, home favourite Marcel Siem was three up after eight holes, then missed several short putts. Adrián Otaegui won with birdies on the 15th, 16th and a 25-footer on the 17th to win 2 and 1, his first European Tour title, without needing to play the 18th all week.

In 2003 Franz Beckenbauer and spa pioneer Alois Hartl were made honorary citizens of Bad Griesbach, a year after the course named for Beckenbauer opened at what Top 100 Golf Courses calls the Hartl resort.

The course is nicknamed the "Kaiser's playground" after Franz Beckenbauer, German football's "Kaiser", who returned at least once a year to play the Kaisercup charity tournament there.
Bernhard Langer and Kurt Rossknecht laid the course out on the flood plain of the River Rott, with wetlands lining many fairways and water in play on several holes.
The right-doglegged par-4 2nd has a big pond in front of the green, and the club's reviewers advise bailing out left rather than trying to carry it.
The short par-3 17th has an elevated green set behind a sizeable pond.
The 16th is a short par 4; in the 2017 Paul Lawrie Match Play final, Adrián Otaegui drove the green and made birdie there.
