David Feherty won the first BMW International Open in 1989, the year the course opened. Back as defending champion in 1990, he shot 62, which the club still lists as its course record; he had shot 62 the year before too, but from shortened tees.
At the 2009 BMW International Open, won by Nick Dougherty, runner-up Rafa Echenique made a historic albatross at the 18th. In 2001 Raphaël Jacquelin had made the first hole-in-one in the tournament's history, at the 17th, the year John Daly won.
Club founder Horst W. Ernst set up the club in March 1987 and brought the BMW International Open to Eichenried on his own initiative. Five of America's top-10 players and more than 35,000 spectators came to the first edition in 1989.
The 2021 BMW International Open was played under COVID-19 restrictions with only 400 spectators, and Viktor Hovland won with Martin Kaymer second.
The 9th hole of the B loop was rebuilt with a half-island green and reopened in May 2007.
Kurt Rossknecht's 1989 18 holes were expanded to 27 when a third nine opened on 7 June 2002 (ground was broken on 21 October 2000); the BMW International Open uses a composite of the A, B and C loops.
The course was built on about 80 hectares of the Weiler family's estate at the edge of Eichenried, in the municipality of Moosinning north-east of Munich.
On 31 July 2026 the club's oldest active member, Werner Rygol, celebrated his 100th birthday with a nine-hole tournament.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
