Harry Vardon laid out nine holes in the grounds in the early 1900s; Jack Nicklaus II rebuilt them into 18, opened in 1991 with an exhibition between Tony Jacklin and Dave Stockton.
Trish Johnson won the 1996 Women's European Open at Hanbury Manor by five shots; the men's English Open followed from 1997 to 1999.
The Jacobean-style manor, built in 1890 for the Hanbury family, was a girls' boarding school from 1923 to 1986 before becoming the hotel and clubhouse.
Jack Nicklaus II revised Harry Vardon's original parkland nine and added nine new holes on farmland behind the house: the newer front nine is exposed and American in style, the back nine tree-lined parkland.
The hardest hole, a 425-yard par 4 with out-of-bounds all down the right, plays to an elevated green with a lake left and a grassy hollow right, the green sloping towards the lake.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
