The district is named after Karen Blixen of "Out of Africa"; after her coffee plantation was sold in 1931, Karen Estates built a golf course to attract buyers, and manager Remi Martin laid it out himself because no architect was interested.
Karen chose grass greens when most Kenyan courses still had sand "browns"; early players shared the course with zebra, eland, lions and baboons, and during the Second World War military camps occupied part of the course.
In March 2021 Karen hosted two European Tour events: Justin Harding won the Magical Kenya Open, and Daniel van Tonder won the Kenya Savannah Classic, beating Jazz Janewattananond on the third playoff hole.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
