Caven Point was an industrial zone of oil refineries and warehouses and handled storage and distribution of supplies and munitions during World War II and the early Cold War, before becoming Liberty National.
Liberty National opened on July 4, 2006, after nearly 14 years of conceptualising and construction, on a site Tom Kite chose after seeing an aerial view facing the Statue of Liberty.
In the final round of the 2019 Northern Trust, leader Jon Rahm bogeyed the 153-yard par-3 14th by the water and Patrick Reed birdied it in the group behind; Reed won by one over Abraham Ancer.

The course sits on the Hudson in Jersey City with views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, New York Harbor, the Manhattan skyline and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
The club is a fifteen-minute boat ride from lower Manhattan and was built with its own ferry service and helipad.
The club laid Belgian stones for its cart paths, and its clubhouse rises above the 18th green in a style meant to echo Manhattan across the water.
The 160-acre course has 90 bunkers and 10 water hazards, with average greens of about 4,500 square feet (2017 Presidents Cup fact sheet).
For the 2017 Presidents Cup the holes were re-sequenced: the normal 5th was played as the 1st, the 14th as the 10th, the 16th as the 12th and the 18th as the 14th.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
