The course began in 1912 as a nine-hole layout with sand greens near the Camp Logan hospital, built for convalescent soldiers.

According to legend, architect John Bredemus called his 1936 redesign his "greatest golf course ever."

GCSAA ranked Memorial Park first for fewest sand bunkers among 2025 PGA Tour courses, with 21 - fewer even than Augusta National's 44.
Tom Doak built his take on a Redan green at the par-3 7th, which plays back toward the 2nd with a view to the clubhouse.
Doak reshaped the property's one lake to serve two holes: the par-5 16th plays over a corner of it to a peninsula green, and the 17th hugs the same pond.
The 1st and 14th play as par 5s for everyday golfers but as par 4s at the Houston Open, where the course is set up at par 70 with just three par 5s.

Player consultant Brooks Koepka told Doak the par 3s needed variety; the 15th, a short hole with a skinny green above a creek, is the result Doak compared to Shinnecock Hills' 11th.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
