The Vintage Course was patterned on turn-of-the-century courses such as National Golf Links, Fishers Island and Chicago Golf Club, with square edges, deep pots, blind shots and wicker-basket pins.
Mission Hills Haikou spans about 20 km2 with ten courses, all by Schmidt-Curley, making it the second-largest golf complex in the world after Mission Hills Shenzhen.

Bunkers are grass-faced and flat-bottomed with a deliberately unfinished look meant to imitate hand-finished work of the early 1900s.
Unlike Blackstone next door, which has only fairway cut, the Vintage is built with narrow fairways and rough around the greens, routed to leave its heavily wooded site as undisturbed as possible.

The 2nd has a Raynor/Macdonald-style Biarritz green, noticeably skinnier than those Seth Raynor and C.B. Macdonald built.

The reachable par-5 9th has a donut-shaped green and shallow sand furrows hidden in its rippling fairway; Planet Golf calls it the one hole that takes the shine off the course.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
