The club says designer Jack Nicklaus called Ishioka the best golf course he knew of in Japan; the near-flat site (about 4 m of elevation change) relies on ponds and bunkers for its defence.
At the 2008 Nichirei PGM Ladies, local Ibaraki player Yuko Mitsuka's tee shot at the long downhill par-3 15th headed for the pond but struck the timber sleepers and bounced back onto the course; she went on to win by a wide margin.

In the first DP World Tour event held in Japan, the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship, Lucas Herbert beat Aaron Cockerill with an improbable birdie on the second playoff hole.

The site is almost flat, with a maximum elevation change of 4 metres; Nicklaus made the strategy from ponds and bunkers placed around it.

The Japan Golf Tour describes tight fairways lined by mature trees that require use of all 14 clubs.
Preview writers noted the claim that every green is visible from its tee, and that the course plays short on the card with two reachable par 5s rather than with typical Nicklaus width.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
