The view from the elevated 1st tee runs across Portstewart Strand to the cylindrical Mussenden Temple on the distant headland and on to the hills of Donegal.
The 5th, the hardest hole on the card, has its green tucked behind two sweeping dunes, recalling the 2nd at Royal County Down.
The short par-3 6th with a plateau green has since been renamed in honour of Des Giffin, the designer of the 1992 dune holes.
Seven holes run through Thistly Hollow, barrier dunes covered in dark green buckthorn bought by the club in the late 1980s.
The course sits in a dune system about 6,000 years old, designated an Area of Special Scientific Interest for the butterfly and orchid species its dunes support.
The PGA Tour and DP World Tour weeks at this course since 2017.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
