To win back the Open, the club surrendered the old 17th and 18th to the tented village; Mackenzie & Ebert built two new holes (7 and 8) on the old Valley Course 5th and 6th, first tested at the 2018 Boys Amateur.

Irishman Shane Lowry dominated the final two days of the 148th Open in 2019 to win his first major by six shots from Tommy Fleetwood in rough Sunday weather.
The links staged the first professional golf tournament in Ireland, won by Sandy Herd in 1895.
The par-3 16th plays over 230 yards at championship length to an elevated green with a deep chasm down the right and no bunkers at all.

The short downhill dogleg par-4 5th has its green perched on the edge of the course some 50 feet above the seashore.
One of the biggest bunkers in Ireland, originally on the old 17th; Mackenzie & Ebert recreated it in the dunes right of the new par-5 7th before the 2019 Open.
The links is named after the ruined Dunluce Castle that overlooks it; on a clear day the Paps of Jura and Islay are visible from the 3rd tee.
The par-4 4th is named Fred Daly's, after the Portrush-born 1947 Open champion; it has out-of-bounds right and a green with a narrow entrance between dunes.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
