Set in the heart of Shanghai's automotive-industry district, Robert Trent Jones Jr. built mounds round the edge of the site to hide the industrial landscape.
In the course's first Volvo China Open in 2025, Xiamen native Wu Ashun closed with 65 to win his second China Open ten years after his first, as overnight co-leader Li Haotong faltered.
The club says it has been named one of the Platinum Clubs of the World since 2017, most recently ranked #60 in the world.
RTJ II dug an interconnected system of lakes on the flat site, generating nearly one million cubic metres of soil that was used to build the course's hills and rolling terrain.
Because the available irrigation water carried toxic levels of pollutants, RTJ II built a tertiary treatment system with biological sand filters, and capped the whole course with sand so members can play through the monsoon months.
The newly created wetlands are described by the architect as a haven for wildlife and waterfowl, a natural sanctuary inside Anting's automotive industrial zone.
Native lovegrass and fescues define the line of each hole and turn golden in autumn, with cedar and magnolia planted on what was once barren wasteland about 12 miles from the Bund.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
