The club takes its name from the 1969 Ryder Cup, when Jack Nicklaus conceded the final putt to Tony Jacklin, clinching the first tie in the event's history. The two men designed the course together.
The course lost 250 trees during Hurricane Ian in 2022.

The Concession was built in 2006 as a privately owned championship course with no houses lining it, so tournament conditions are the norm and the setting is the star.
In 2015 it hosted the men's and women's NCAA Division I Championships, the first time both were held at the same course.

The club stages the biennial Concession Cup, set to return to The Concession in 2028.
