Five years after opening in April 2008, land from the Honourable Company in a swap gave three new coastal holes (9-11); the original first three holes were dropped and kept for practice, and old 12 and 13 merged into one.
Bernd Wiesberger won the 2019 Scottish Open in a playoff with Benjamin Hebert after both finished 22 under, the lowest to-par total in the event's history.
After Wiesberger's 2019 playoff win, Aaron Rai beat Tommy Fleetwood at the first extra hole in 2020 and Min Woo Lee won a three-man playoff in 2021.
Tom Doak's course was carved from about 300 acres of pine forest (over 8,500 tonnes of wood cleared), keeping some trees in strategic fairway and greenside positions.
The par-4 10th, one of three holes added on the coast, has a thin ribbon of fairway and a steeply tilted green along cliffs high above the Firth of Forth.
The club is on the Archerfield Estate in East Lothian, next to Muirfield; land for the coastal holes came from the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in a land swap.
The PGA Tour and DP World Tour weeks at this course since 2017.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
