The club began in 1928 as Middletown Golf Club and was later Edgewood Country Club. Pete Dye completely redesigned it in 1982, and Bobby Weed reworked it again in 1989 with tour players Howard Twitty and Roger Maltbie as consultants.
The 15th, 16th and 17th holes all play around a four-acre lake; 2008 champion Stewart Cink called the closing four "four of the most exciting finishing holes in a group anywhere in the world."
The 148-acre layout, framed by maple, oak, sycamore and eastern white pine, is fully certified in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
A contingent of about 10-15 local superintendents and sales representatives spends a week at the course every June for the Travelers, and some maintenance staff have worked 25-35 editions.
Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
