Greg Norman designed the course, built from 1999, and played the match that opened it in 2002, beating Padraig Harrington 2 & 1.
Winter storms in 2013-14 damaged the shoreline holes 5, 6, 9 and the signature 14th, taking parts of Norman's course into the sea; the Trump Organisation bought the resort in February 2014 and brought in Martin Hawtree.

Laid out on a "least disturbance" philosophy through the dunes as a single loop out and back, the par-72 course has an unusual mix of five par 3s and five par 5s over 7,026 yards.

The original signature 14th was a 111-yard par 3 cut from a dune; after the 2013-14 storms it was replaced by a 137-yard par 3 from an elevated tee.

The 350-yard par-4 15th has a split fairway, so driver is not necessarily the play.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
The clubhouse is drawn by GNN from reference photographs; the photographs stay private.
