Hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, a 12-handicapper and Sunningdale member for 45 years, searched exhaustively around the turn of the millennium before choosing this Sicilian coastline; Verdura opened in 2009 with three courses by Kyle Phillips.
When the Sicilian Open returned in 2017-18 as the Rocco Forte Open, both editions went to playoffs: Álvaro Quirós beat Zander Lombard in 2017 and Joakim Lagergren beat Mike Lorenzo-Vera in 2018.

For tour events Verdura combined holes of Kyle Phillips's East and West courses into one composite layout, as at the 2012 Sicilian Open.

The 500-acre resort lies on Sicily's south-west coast between historic Agrigento and the fishing town of Sciacca, about 80 minutes' drive from Palermo.
Both courses end with coastal finishes: the West builds to a seaside crescendo beneath the traditional Sicilian clubhouse, and the East's closing par 4 runs back toward the clubhouse with the Mediterranean waiting on the right.
The PGA Tour and DP World Tour weeks at this course since 2017.

A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
