The 18th is one of golf's most recognisable finishes, with the Harbour Town Lighthouse behind the green and the landing area jutting into Calibogue Sound.

Sea Pines founder Charles Fraser found a 1786 ship's manifest recording "golfer sticks" and featheries shipped to South Carolina and Georgia, suggesting golf was played in Charleston a century before Yonkers, and named the tournament the Heritage Classic for that Scottish heritage.

At the opening ceremony the defending champion receives his Captain of Gentlemen Golfers plaque and hits a featherie-style ball with an authentic hickory club into Calibogue Sound in unison with a cannon shot.

Harbour Town's greens average about 3,700 sq ft; in 2025 they were the second smallest on the PGA Tour (behind Pebble Beach) and the course had the most holes with water in play.
On the par-5 5th an oak tree stands just in front of the green, with a massive bunker right of the fairway and water and bunkers left.
Before the 2022 RBC Heritage a palm tree was planted in the greenside bunker on the 10th.
The short par-4 9th has a heart-shaped green protected by sand in front and behind.
