At 35, fashion designer Laura Biagiotti fell for the abandoned castle she kept passing on business trips. With her husband Gianni Cigna she bought and restored it with the fine-arts authorities, calling the project "a madness that took me and that I followed gently"; the estate is now home to the Jim Fazio-designed golf course.

Tom Fazio II and European Golf Design completely renewed Jim Fazio's course to host the September 2023 Ryder Cup, which Europe won 16.5–11.5 over the United States. In the same years it hosted three editions of the DS Automobiles Italian Open (2021–2023).

The course surrounds Marco Simone castle, which grew from a 14th-century tower and is, the club says, the best-preserved 15th-century palace in the Roman countryside. Laura Biagiotti's restoration made it a national monument.

The estate takes its name from Marco di Simone, son of the Roman nobleman Simone dei Tebaldi, who bought the property in 1457 and transformed the old tower.

The Ryder Cup renovation shaped the landscape around water lakes and an amphitheatre setting built for spectators.
Fossils from about 300,000 years ago lie in the castle basement, and columns and inscriptions show that an imperial-era Roman villa once stood on the site.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
