As a municipal course the North sees about 90,000 rounds a year, compared with about 78,000 on the South, so managing wear is a constant focus for the crew.

Since 1968 the San Diego tour stop has been played at Torrey Pines, with the field splitting the first 36 holes between the North and South courses.
During World War II the mesa was Camp Callan, an Army anti-aircraft artillery training centre that held 10,000 or more trainees at a time and ran from 1941 to 1945. Afterwards the city bought back the land and buildings for $200,000 and the barracks were torn down for lumber to build veterans' homes.

Tom Weiskopf's 2016 redesign lengthened the North and reversed its holes so the round ends with panoramas of the Pacific.

The courses sit atop 390-foot bluffs and run south from Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve to the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, routed around scrub-covered canyons.

Cart paths wind under groves of eucalyptus and Torrey pine, the rare tree the facility is named for; since 2016 under-used turf has been replaced with native shrubs to save water.

Every value is shown as recorded in GNN's tour-course research (profiles, championship history, the tour's visits since 2017, stories, details and course changes, each with its sources). A value no source confirmed is left out; nothing is estimated. The light in the room is the sun's real position on the last day of a recorded visit.
