What happened at the 1942 Masters

Hogan closed with a birdie for 70 to tie, and Nelson then missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force an 18-hole Monday playoff.

Nelson fell behind early in the playoff but played holes 8 through 13 in five under to win by one, with Bobby Jones as referee; it was the last Masters until 1946.
