Final: Carr drove the green at the 360-yard 30th hole and holed a 75-foot putt for an eagle 2, the decisive blow in his 3 & 2 win before a gallery of about 800.

Semifinal: Tim Holland, the last American, was 3 up after four holes but lost 4 & 3 to Thirlwell; he had complained of a shunting train near the green, and officials asked the engineer to be considerate of "the American in a red sweater".
