What happened at the 1958 U.S. Amateur

Coe's 18-ft birdie on the 22nd after picking up on the 21st turned the final; he went on to win 5 & 4 for his second title, nine years after his first

Ward Wettlaufer beat two-time champion Harvie Ward 3 & 2 in the round of 16, ending Ward's record 17-match winning streak

Final, Charles Coe v. Tommy Aaron, 5 & 4. Aaron led 2 up after the 11th; Coe won four of the last six morning holes to lead 2 up at lunch; Aaron cut it back (won the 19th and 21st, where Coe picked up after flubbing two bunker shots), but Coe birdied the 433-yd 22nd from 18 ft - the turning point - and won five straight holes as Aaron faltered (23rd-26th), closing it out on the 32nd

Round of 16, Ward Wettlaufer v. Harvie Ward, 3 & 2. Hamilton College senior Ward Wettlaufer, who had predicted he could beat Ward, ended the two-time champion's record run of 17 consecutive U.S. Amateur match victories

Semifinal, Tommy Aaron v. Dick Foote, 10 & 9. Aaron overwhelmed UCLA's Dick Foote 10 & 9, the largest semifinal margin since Billy Maxwell's 10 & 9 in 1951

Quarterfinal, Charles Coe v. Deane Beman, 1 up. 20-year-old Maryland student Deane Beman led at the turn of the afternoon quarterfinal before Coe holed a 14-footer at the 14th and an 8-ft birdie at the 16th; both birdied the 18th
