What happened at the 1904 Women’s Amateur
Lottie Dod, five-time Wimbledon singles champion, was 1 down with two to play in the final when May Hezlet missed a two-foot putt on the 17th; Dod then won the 18th with a faultless 4 (Australasian 1904-07-02; Sydney Mail 1904-06-22).
Between 5,000 and 6,000 spectators followed the Dod-Hezlet final at Troon, and Dod had survived the third round after being five down (Australasian 1904-07-02).
Round of 16, May Hezlet v. Rhona Adair. May Hezlet, all square with holder Rhona Adair at the turn, won three holes in a row and, after Adair laid herself a stymie at the 13th, won 4 and 2 (SMH 1904-06-17).
