What happened at the 1924 Women’s Amateur
In the final Joyce Wethered was stymied at the 6th green and holed a chip shot over Mrs. Cautley's ball with her mashie; the second round was played in a thunderstorm (The Sun, Sydney, 1924-05-23).
Wethered beat Cecil Leitch in their quarter-final at Portrush as Leitch 'gave the most wretched display of putting ever seen on a golf course by a champion' (Golf Illustrated 1924-07).
Quarterfinal, Joyce Wethered v. Cecil Leitch. Joyce Wethered beat Cecil Leitch 6 and 4 in the fifth round at Portrush, Leitch's first championship since 1922, failing 'chiefly owing to weak putting' (Reuter, Ballarat Star 1924-05-23).
