What happened at the 1984 Women’s Amateur

Jody Rosenthal took 90 in a gale in her first qualifying round and survived a play-off to reach match play before winning the title.

In her semi-final against Rosenthal, Wilma Aitken called a penalty on herself at the 2nd when her ball moved and holed a 75-foot putt to halve the 6th before losing 2 and 1.

Final, Jody Rosenthal v. Julie Brown. Rosenthal, who had taken 90 in her first qualifying round and needed a play-off to qualify, beat Brown 4 and 3 to become the ninth American winner.

Semifinal, Jody Rosenthal v. Wilma Aitken. Aitken called a penalty on herself when her ball moved at the 2nd and holed from 75 feet to halve the 6th, but Rosenthal's wedge to eight feet for a birdie at the 16th decided it 2 and 1.
