What happened at the 1951 Amateur Championship

Chapman, 40, won at his 16th attempt at the title after losing the 1947 and 1950 finals; he squared the final for the first time since the 11th hole when Coe's 8-foot putt at the short hole stopped on the lip, and won 5 & 4.

Welsh farmer Albert Evans beat two Americans in one day - Francis Wininger at the 21st hole after a four-hour match and Walker Cup player Bill Campbell 4 & 2 - to reach the last eight, cheered by a home crowd at Porthcawl.
