What happened at the 2022 Open Championship
Starting at the 10th, Smith made five straight birdies and came home in 30 for a closing 64.
Cameron Young eagled the 18th to finish one back, and McIlroy, the co-leader after 54 holes, missed his chip-in eagle try at the 18th and finished third.
After five straight birdies from the 10th and a par save at the 17th, Smith two-putted the 18th for what Golf.com calls "a tournament-clinching birdie", finishing one ahead of Cameron Young.
