What happened at the 1982 U.S. Women's Open
Janet Alex, two strokes behind Beth Daniel entering the final round, took the lead for good on the 8th hole, where she birdied while JoAnne Carner three-putted and Daniel bogeyed after calling a penalty on herself.
Alex's closing 68, the low round of the championship, produced a six-stroke win over a four-way tie for second, the first in the event's history.
